Mato Grosso is setting new standards in environmental management, with significant progress in solid waste management. According to data from the Government Action Report (RAG) of the State Secretariat for the Environment (Sema-MT), the State achieved a rate of 66.59% in the correct disposal of solid urban waste in licensed landfills, exceeding expectations and strengthening its commitment to responsible environmental practices.

Sema’s Solid Waste Management manager, Ricardo Carneiro, explained that the progress is largely due to efforts to renew and adapt environmental licensing processes.

“The combination of effective management and a growing awareness of the importance of environmentally appropriate practices reflects a notable advance in the environmental management of our state,” stated Carneiro.

Sixty municipalities have achieved full compliance in their waste disposal practices, benefiting a total population of 2,519,746 inhabitants.

These results not only demonstrate the municipalities’ commitment to sustainability, but also the effectiveness of environmental licensing as a key tool to ensure compliance and promote environmental preservation.

“These positive results are a testimony to the hard work and partnership between public managers and the community, projecting Mato Grosso as an example of environmental responsibility”, concluded Carneiro.
