Requeijão moreno was recognized as an artisanal cheese from Minas Gerais. The resolution was published in the Official Gazette this Saturday (27/4). The objective of the initiative by the State Department of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply (Seapa) is to promote and value the product that is manufactured in different regions of the state.
The production of the delicacy, made from naturally coagulated raw milk, is part of the Minas Gerais tradition and the practice is passed down from generation to generation. Its color varies from yellow to brown, with a firm texture. The skin is thin and the flavor is slightly smoked.
Moreno cream cheese is produced significantly in municipalities in the Mucuri Valley. At least 54 producers manufacture the food in the municipalities of Ataleia, Catuji, Franciscópolis, Frei Gaspar, Itaipé, Ladainha, Malacacheta, Novo Oriente de Minas, Ouro Verde de Minas, Pavão, Poté, Setubinha and Teófilo Otoni. Porteirinha, in the North region, is another reference in production.
