Sesc Mulheres Plurais Festival Promotes Debate on Food, Music and Literature at the PGE-RJ Cultural Center

The PGE-RJ Cultural Center hosted, this Friday (26/04), two rounds of conversations dedicated to promoting female entrepreneurship and encouraging public policies for gender equality. The initiative is a partnership between Sesc RJ and PGE-RJ, and is part of the program for the 6th edition of the Sesc Mulheres Plurais Festival.

The first chat took place in the D. Maria room, in the old Convento do Carmo, and was attended by chef Teresa Corção, who runs Bistrô Sesc Convento do Carmo, as well as students Thais Claussen and Marcia Rolemberg, from Incubadora Sesc de Economia Creative.

The conversation covered topics such as affective cuisine, organic food and female resistance in the field of agriculture. The meeting was mediated by Helena Oliveira, specialist in environmental education and cultural heritage from the Federal University of Goiás and socio-environmental project analyst at Sesc Teresópolis.

“I value the food cycle made by the state and for the state of Rio de Janeiro. That is why it is important for restaurants and markets to become aware of consuming products from family farming. When I designed the menu for Bistrô Sesc Convento do Carmo, I prioritized ingredients from our land, such as cassava”, defended Teresa Corção.

Marcia Rolemberg, from Incubadora Sesc, defended organic family farming. “For me, eating is a political act. When we have a more conscious diet, when we question how food is produced, we are adopting a philosophy of life. There is no point in food being predatory to the land. Therefore, organic family farming is resistance”, she summarized.
The second round of conversation delved into the musicality and literature of the female universe, bringing together the singer and composer Ana Costa, the writer and social worker Mirim Alves and the Guarani indigenous activist, psychologist and writer Geni Núñez, who debated about the strength of the word, the voice of black women and the act of indigenous people remaining in Brazilian society as a transformative agent. The conversation was mediated by Obirin Odara, social worker and master in social policies.

The program for the 6th edition of the festival extended with activities at Praça In addition to the Creative Economy Fair that promotes entrepreneurship and extra income generation.

Held since 2019 by Sesc RJ, this year’s edition of the Sesc Mulheres Plurais Festival ended with shows by Teresa Cristina, singer and composer and the Movimento de Mulheres Sambistas with singer Ana Costa singing great pagode hits from the 1980s and 1990s.
