Man dies in exchange of gunfire during police chase in Contagem | Minas Gerais

A 25-year-old man died in the early hours of Saturday (27) during a police chase in the Novo Progresso neighborhood, in Scorein Grande BH. The case took place on Avenida João Gomes Cardoso.

Police reported that they were approaching another person in an alley in the region when the suspect passed by on a motorcycle, without a helmet and with his license plate raised. The military ordered him to stop, but he disobeyed.

The suspect then shot at the police, who hid and retaliated. He fled with the motorcycle, towards Avenida João Gomes Cardoso, starting the chase and the exchange of gunfire.

Upon arriving at the avenue, the suspect tried to jump over a wall, but fell. The police caught up with him and saw that he was injured. He was taken to a UPA in Belo Horizontebut died hours later.

According to the police, the suspect who died had two previous incidents of raping a vulnerable person, one in 2017 and another in 2021.

The Civil Police reported that forensic experts were at the scene and that the suspect’s body will be sent to the IML for examination.
