Fifty-seven heifers were stolen from a farm in Fronteira, in the Triângulo Mineiro, on Thursday (25). The animals were found the following day in a slaughterhouse, in Guapiaçu, in the Northwest of São Paulo.
Thirty animals were already dead when the slaughterhouse was located after a joint operation by the Civil Police of Minas Gerais and São Paulo and the Military Police of São Paulo.
According to the Civil Police of Minas Gerais, the other 27 heifers were alive in the slaughterhouse corral when the São Paulo PM arrived and suspended the slaughter. The cattle arrived at the establishment with an invoice, the issuer of which was not disclosed.
According to the Civil Police, the investigation seeks to discover who were the perpetrators of the theft and who was responsible for selling the cattle, in addition to finding who issued the invoice, who transported the heifers and who would keep the profit from the sale of the meat. So far, no one has been arrested.
The surviving animals will be taken back to the owner in Fronteira, who will be compensated for the dead animals.
