With 16 teams, FAF defines groups and competition format for the Copa Amazonas U20 in technical council

Unprecedented competition starts on May 18th and will give place to the São Paulo Junior Football Cup in 2025 to the champion

The Amazon Football Federation (FAF) met with the clubs registered for the first Technical Council of the unprecedented Amazonas Sub-20 Cup, this Friday (26/04), in the Antônio Prudente da Costa auditorium, at the Federation’s headquarters. The meeting was led by the Competition Directors, Cláudio Nobre and Thiago Durante, as well as the General Secretary, Rodrigo Novaes.

Representatives of the clubs were present: Fast, Librade, Presidente Figueiredo, Nacional, Amazonas, Manaus, Paramazonas, Sul América, Cliper, Sete, São Raimundo, RB do Norte, São Paulo Amazonas, Inter Academy and CDC Manicoré participated in the meeting. The representative of Princesa do Solimões justified the absence. The champion guarantees a place in Brazil’s biggest youth competition, the Copa São Paulo de Futebol Júnior.

Scheduled to start on May 18th, the Copa Amazonas U20 has 16 registered clubs. At the meeting, issues such as calendar, switching, among other topics, were discussed. Thiago Durante, who is also a specialist in youth teams, evaluated the meeting and revealed expectations for the start of the games.

“The meeting was fruitful. We clarified all the points with the club representatives and I believe we will have a great championship, where I have no doubt that promising athletes will emerge. The base will always be one of the priorities for the FAF and we will work to have a championship of a high technical level”, he stated.

Debuting in the youth categories in 2023, the Liga de Presidente Figueiredo came in fifth place last season in the Amazonense Under-20 Championship, but has already guaranteed participation in the first Amazonas Under-20 Cup this year. The president, Robson Eloi, who participated in the meeting at the FAF headquarters, stated that the team is training hard and said that Presidente Figueiredo will have his own field.

“Our expectations are high, so much so that we are already working. The activities are focused on the physical part, but also with the ball. We want to fight for the top positions and we need to show our strength, after all, now we have our own stage to play on. Next Tuesday we will inaugurate the Larissa Silva stadium. A great achievement for football in our municipality. Last year, we had the fifth best performance and this year we are going in search of the title”, he added.

Format of the Copa Amazonas U20

The highest entity of Amazonian football prioritizes democracy, therefore, decisions regarding the competition, such as brackets and knockouts, were voted on by the teams participating in the meeting.

The Amazonas Cup will have two brackets with eight teams. The best six in each qualify, where the first two advance directly to the semifinals. The teams in group A face those in group B. In the quarter-finals, teams from their own group will face each other, without crossing paths with the other. In all knockout stages, there will be single matches with no draw advantage.
