The Superior Court of Sports Justice (STJD) decided this Friday (26) to punish the North American Jonh Textor, majority partner of SAF Botafogo, with suspension for 45 days and payment of a fine of R$ 100 thousand reais, due to of offenses against refereeing and CBF president Ednaldo Rodrigues, after the Rio team’s 4-3 defeat to Palmeiras in the final stretch of last year’s Brazilian Championship. ebc.gif?id=1592617&o=node

The decision of the STJD plenary, after the virtual session, it was final, that is, no more resources are available. As John Textor had already served 28 days of preventive suspension at the end of 2023, he will only have to supplement 17 days of the suspension sentence. In a decision at first instance, on December 1, 2023, Textor had already been punished with 35 days of leave and a fine of R$25,000.

The owner of SAF Botafogo was reported for non-compliance with articles 243-F (offense of honor) and 258-B (field invasion) set out in the Brazilian Code of Sports Justice (CBJD).

Last Monday (22), Textor appeared before the Senate Parliamentary Inquiry Commission (CPI), which investigates suspected match-fixing. On the occasion, the director classified the way in which the CBF selects referees for football games as a “black box”, and also denounced irregularities that would have benefited Palmeira in winning the 2023 Brazilian title.

Jonh Textor is also responding to other cases at the STJD – with no trial date set yet – for not presenting evidence for the complaint he made about a results manipulation scheme.
