President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva stated that the approval of the tax reform in the National Congress is the merit of the ministers of Finance, Fernando Haddad, and of Institutional Relations, Alexandre Padilha. The speech, however, comes days after the head of the Executive demanded his ministers to talk more with the Legislature.

“We managed to carry out, for the first time in the history of Brazil, a very quick tax reform”, said Lula, at an event to hand over an aircraft from Embraer to Azul in São José dos Campos (SP), on Friday, 26.” We managed to dialogue, talk, not turn our nose at anyone, not stick our nose in the air, talk to everyone and manage to approve a tax policy”, he added.

In his assessment, the merit of the approval lies with the government’s body of ministers, citing the work of Haddad and Padilha. “Approval of the tax reform is a merit of Padilha, who worked a lot, Haddad, who talked a lot, Rui Costa Casa Civil and the ministers who went after him to talk to Congress”, commented the president.

On Monday the 22nd, however, Lula demanded the participation of some of his main ministers in political articulation. “This means that vice-president Geraldo Alckmin has to be more agile, he has to talk more. Haddad has to, you know, instead of reading a book, he has to waste a few hours talking in the Senate and in the Chamber. Wellington Dias, Minister of Social Development, Rui Costa spend some of his time talking”, said the President of the Republic.
