Actress Bruna Marquezine attended, last Monday (6), the MET Gala, an event held in favor of the fashion wing of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, which annually brings together big names in the entertainment industry. The Brazilian was, for the first time, on the select list of guests of the editor-in-chief of American Vogue, Anna Wintour.

For the debut at the gala, which featured some daring looks, Marquezine chose a long cream dress by designer Tory Burch. The piece was made up of three Tiffany & Co. earrings and two rings, which together are valued at more than R$4.5 million. Through social media, the Brazilian showed what the inspiration for her choice was: a dress worn in her childhood.

What is the Met Gala

Recognized for the extravagance of the guests, it is, in fact, charitable in nature. Officially, it raises money for the fashion wing of the Metropolitan Museum of Art (MET – which gave rise to the event’s acronym), located in New York, in the United States.

The event was created in 1948 by publicist Eleanor Lambert, also responsible for launching New York Fashion Week, who led the charitable part of the Costume Institute, the fashion wing of the MET. In the 1970s, the gala event was popularized by the former editor-in-chief of Vogue, Diana Vreeeland, bringing annual themes in a format similar to the current one.

The date of the Met ball, always on the first Monday in May, was defined in 1995 by the magazine’s current editor-in-chief, Anna Wintour – the same one who would have inspired Miranda Priestly, from ‘The Devil Wears Prada’. The journalist was responsible for transforming a common gala event into a meeting of the main names in fashion, cinema, politics, sports and, now, even social media.
