With BR-304 closed for almost a month, after the collapse of a bridge in the municipality of Lajes, the diversion built by the National Department of Transport Infrastructure (DNIT) is 50% completeas announced by the federal agency.
“The completion of the services is subject to favorable weather conditions, as excessive rain makes it difficult to lay paving material”, informed the agency.
The highway cuts Rio Grande do Norte from East to West and is the main connection between the largest cities in the state – Natal and Mossoró.
According to Dnit, when completed, the official detour, on the banks of the highway, will be 500 meters long, 10.5 meters wide (including two shoulders of 1.5 meters each) in Hot Machined Bituminous Concrete (CBUQ) pavement.
A concrete layer will be seven centimeters thick and, according to the agency, it will guarantee greater safety when traveling, including allowing the passage of heavy vehicles.
The temporary runway should also be used in the future as part of the construction site for the construction of the new bridge.
Construction of new bridge
The preliminary project for emergency hiring of a company that will build the new bridge is being analyzed by the municipality’s technical team. After approval of the preliminary project, the process of hiring a specialized company for the work will begin.
According to the Dnit, the new structure will have “different configurations than the crossing that collapsed”, which aim to increase the flow capacity and eliminate the risk of new occurrences like the one in March.
