Acre has 30.5% of households with some level of food insecurity

In the fourth quarter of 2023, taking as a reference the three months prior to the date of the survey, of the 78.3 million permanent private households in Brazil, 21.6 million (27.6%) were affected by some degree of food insecurity . The most severe form encompassed around 3.2 million households (4.1%).

The data are from the Food Security module of the Continuous National Household Sample Survey (PNAD), released this Thursday, 25th, by IBGE.

Food security in Brazilian households will grow again in 2023

According to the data, in Acre 30.5% of households had some level of food security at the time of the survey. Of this total, 19.3% were at the level of mild food insecurity; 5.5% were modestly food insecure; and 5.7% in severe food insecurity.

In Brazil, 72.4% (56.7 million) were in a food security situation, that is, they had permanent access to adequate food.

This proportion grew 9.1 percentage points compared to the last IBGE survey to investigate the topic, POF 2017-2018, which had found 63.3% of the country’s households to be food secure.

In Acre, the number of households that were food secure corresponded to 69.5% at the time of the survey.

In the North region, in relation to severe food insecurity, states such as Pará (9.5%), Amazonas (9.1%), Amapá (8.4%) and Roraima (6.6%) were in a worse situation than the from Acre.
