The Federal Supreme Court (STF) considered unconstitutional the law of the Federal District that limited the participation of women in the Military Police to 10%. The vote ended this Monday (6) and totaled 9 votes against the law and two in favor (See below how the ministers voted).

According to minister rapporteur Cristiano Zanin, the law is discriminatory and promotes inequality and obstacles to entry into public service based on gender.

The action judged in the virtual plenary of the Court was proposed by the Workers’ Party (PT), which questioned the law in 1998. The legal norm that supports the limitation of only 10% of vacancies for women is article 4 of Law 9,713, of 1998.

The PMDF notice provided 630 immediate vacancies for male soldiers, and 70 for female soldier. The reserve registration has 1,260 vacancies for men and 140 for women.

Initially, according to the notice, the candidate should have taken advantage of 60% score on the objective test or 48 points to advance to the next stage.
