The management of Miss Universe Brazil announced this week the change in the direction of the contest. As a result, some of the state coordinators resigned from their positions due to criticism of the new national director.

“The departure is in total disagreement and repudiation of the new franchisee’s history and professional positioning. Throughout his career in the miss world, the current owner has demonstrated a series of attitudes that contradict the values and principles defended by the coordinators”, they wrote, in a statement sent to Quem magazine.

In addition to Meyre Manaus, the following left their positions: Piauí (Monalysa Alcantara), Amazon (Miro Sampaio), Ceará (Guilhermino Benevides), São Paulo (Eder Ignacio), Rio Grande do Norte and Paraíba (George Azevedo), Roraima (Paulo Silas), Sergipe (Luiz Plínio) and Rondônia (Electicia Dias).

Meyre has been responsible for the competition for 18 years. Last year, in an interview with ContilNetshe had already said that she would hand over command of the coordination.

“I’m turning 18, and I intend to hand over the franchise. I’ve wanted to deliver it several times, but they won’t let me deliver it, both the national coordination and some people in my state. Because I think so, that if I deliver it won’t be the same as what I do, I care, and I do it out of love. I give my blood, the girls notice and they all call me mamis, this is the affection they have for me, because I treat them like a daughter. So I think about delivering, I thought about some people, but people don’t want to know about it anymore because they know it’s work. But let’s see, I’ll put my hand in God’s hands, in 2 years I’ll turn 20, and who knows, I’ll close with a flourish. Who knows, maybe I will hand it over to a good person, who God will put on the path to continue this dream, for the girls in the municipalities, the children too, and I will pursue another field and other things that I intend to do in the future”, he said at the time.

As a result of the recent announcement that the direction of Miss Universe Brazil is under new management, the state coordinators of the states of Amazonas, Acre, Piauí, Ceará, São Paulo, Rio Grande do Norte, Paraíba, Roraima, Sergipe and Rondônia feel compelled to speak out through this statement.

Those responsible for the state competitions express their surprise and concern with the choice of the new organization and as a result, today, Wednesday, April 24, they announce the joint decision to resign from the positions of state franchisees of the national competition. From this moment on, it no longer maintains any direct or indirect connection with Miss Universe Brazil.

The departure takes place in total disagreement and repudiation of the new franchisee’s history and professional positioning. Throughout his career in the miss world, the current owner has demonstrated a series of attitudes that contradict the values and principles defended by the coordinators.

We deeply regret the need to make this decision, but we feel it is our ethical and moral duty to step away from leadership whose practices do not reflect the ideals for which we work tirelessly. They also thank everyone involved in the Miss Universe Brazil state competitions and ask for understanding and respect at this delicate time. Sincerely, Monalysa Alcântara (PI), Miro Sampaio (Amazonas), Guilhermino Benevides (Ceará), Eder Ignácio (São Paulo), George Azevedo (Rio Grande do Norte and Paraíba), Paulo Silas (Roraima) and Luiz Plínio (Sergipe), Eleticia Dias (Rondônia) Ana Meyre (Acre).”
