This Monday morning (6), the municipality of Cascavel began a vaccination campaign against dengue in all 47 health units in the city. The action is aimed at children aged 10 to 14, an age group that has shown high rates of hospitalization due to the virus in the last five years.

It is estimated that Cascavel has a population of more than 21.7 thousand people in this age group. The objective of the campaign is to reach 90% of this target audience. To this end, the municipality received a shipment of 5,434 doses of the vaccine, sent by the Ministry of Health, through the 10th Health Region.

The municipality’s Health Secretary, Miroslau Bailak, gave details about the campaign. According to him, after infection with the dengue virus, it is recommended to wait six months to receive the vaccine. The dengue vaccination schedule is two doses, with an interval of three months between them.

Doctor Lilimar Regina Nadolny Mori, director of the 10th Cascavel Health Region, also spoke about the availability of doses. She reinforced the importance of vaccination, especially considering the current situation in the city.

Cascavel is currently facing the worst dengue epidemic in its history. 19 deaths have already been confirmed and more than 22 thousand registered cases of the disease.
