The State Government of Rio de Janeiro presented, on the morning of this Monday (6), the final balance of the special operation carried out for the show Madonna on the beach of Copacabana, last Saturday (4). In addition to five thousand agents, firefighters and military and civil police, the action included 65 observation towers, 18 inspection points and policing on the sand.

“We have to understand that we had a New Year’s Eve [rua] Paula Freitas at [rua] Princess Isabel. In other words, a much greater concentration than on New Year’s Eve, which uses the entire waterfront”, comments Public Security Secretary Victor César dos Santos.

The press conference highlighted the inauguration of 18 gantries with facial recognition cameras, which helped in real-time monitoring of the public accessing the event area. There was criticism, however, of the delay in installing the equipment on Saturday.

Throughout the day, the Military Fire Department of the State of Rio de Janeiro (CBMERJ) rescued around 50 people drowning in the sea of Copacabana. During the show period, rescues continued, including ground rescue and clinical events, such as fainting.⁣

In addition to carrying out more than 50 calls throughout Saturday (4), CBMERJ’s 800 agents carried out around two thousand actions with the support of boats, quadricycles, ambulances, rescue motorcycles for quick movement among the public, rescue vehicles and tanker trucks at the main access points to the event.⁣

More than three thousand military police officers were mobilized for The Celebration Tour in Rio. In total, four arrest warrants were served, including that of a man identified by the facial recognition system.

Additionally, a teenager was apprehended and 38 people were taken to Copacabana police stations. The agents also seized around 160 sharp objects at the search and blocking points.

Around 1,500 civil police officers were mobilized for Madonna’s show in Copacabana. Agents arrested seven people and apprehended seven teenage offenders. During the event, 213 incidents were recorded.

During the show, the Capital’s Mobile Emergency Service (SAMU) recorded 1,800 calls. In the region’s Emergency Care Units (UPA), around 600 services were provided to the population.

The Rio de Janeiro State Water and Sewage Company (Cedae) distributed around 50 thousand liters of water to the public at four hydration points along the coast.

An action by the Women’s Secretariat and the Maria da Penha Patrol was present at four support points spread across Copacabana. In addition to a video to warn about harassment, 25 thousand fans with the campaign “NO IT’S NO! Respect the decision” were distributed to the public.

For the closing show of the tour celebrating 40 years of Madonna’s career, which attracted 1.6 million people, technology actions were used, such as the command truck from the Integrated Mobile Command and Control Center.

The car has 30 cameras linked to an advanced facial recognition system and drones that fly over the coast. With an investment of R$8.6 million, the vehicle made it possible to provide immediate assistance to teams of agents spread across the coast to combat possible criminal actions.
