The state government of Alagoas celebrates the positive forecast for the 2023/2024 sugar cane harvest, which is expected to reach the mark of 19.5 million tons. This result represents a significant recovery in the sector, following investments made by the State in recent years.

According to preliminary information from the Technical Department of Sindaçúcar-AL, sugarcane production in the state has shown a recovery cycle since the 2018/2019 harvest. The small difference compared to the previous harvest is seen positively, especially considering that the sugarcane collection in 2022/23 was the largest in the last eight years.

This improvement was expected due to the investments and fiscal equalization policies implemented by the Government of Alagoas. The superintendent of Energy Policies, Bruno Macêdo, highlights that the state is a national highlight in relation to the participation of sugarcane biomass in the generation of renewable energy, which contributes to the reduction of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere and to combating changes climate.

The Secretary of Development, Industry, Commerce and Services, Alice Beltrão, highlights that Alagoas has become a reference in legal security and sustainable policies, aiming to expand socioeconomic development and the energy transition in the state. She highlights the importance of local natural resources and the policies implemented to boost the economy.

With these positive results in sugarcane production, Alagoas reaffirms its prominent position on the national scene and is an example of success in promoting sustainable practices and the state’s economic development.
