‘Uncle Paulo’ case: niece took out a loan in the name of the elderly man who died at a bank? Breaking banking secrecy makes the truth come to light

-

Elderly man who was pronounced dead in a bank, “Uncle Paulo” had his banking secrecy broken by the investigation. The 68-year-old man was taken to an agency by his supposed niece Erika de Souza Vieira Nunes nine days ago and since then the woman, who according to the police document was not in normal condition when she testified, has remained in prison and could face charges of theft and vilification of a corpse.

The careful woman was allegedly attacked by other inmates a few days ago, which is why her defense requested that she be isolated in a cell. The breach of banking secrecy of Paulo Roberto Braga, buried at the weekend with financial help from the city hall of the capital of Rio de Janeiro, aimed to determine whether or not Érika had made any loans in the name of her “uncle”.

And according to the documents, the woman never made this transaction. The breach of confidentiality was requested a week ago (Thursday, 18), two days after Paulo’s death and Érika’s arrest. The survey indicates that the elderly man’s “niece” only attempted to withdraw R$17,000 on Tuesday the 16th, according to the newspaper “Diário de Pernambuco”.

‘Uncle Paulo’ would use loan to renovate humble house

This money would be used to buy a television and renovate the humble home of the retired man, who had simple habits, who had no children and was single at the time of his death. It has not yet been revealed what Paulo’s profession was nor his fixed income – the man used to repair cages to increase his income.

The survey also showed the absence of attempted withdrawals from another bank (BMG), as well as from the INSS and the credit company Crefisa. Through her lawyer, Érika denied that she knew about “Uncle Paulo’s” death when she entered the Itaú branch in Bangu, West Zone of Rio, with him, the same neighborhood where the elderly man lived.

Witnesses who had contact with Paulo hours earlier indicated that he was alive. The man, in the opinion of coroners who analyzed the strong images from the bank branch, assured that he had already entered the place of death.
