In the administrative region of Emater/RS-Ascar de Erechim, which covers 7 thousand hectares, yerba mate producers are paying attention to marketing prices, which are around R$ 13.00/arroba harvested or R$ 18.00 /at post in the industry. As revealed in the Economic Information released this Thursday (25/04) by Emater/RS-Ascar, linked to the State Secretariat for Rural Development (SDR), the region will host two farmer training events: one in Marcelino Ramos, on 05/08, and another in Barão de Cotegipe, on 05/09.
In Passo Fundo, phytosanitary treatments for seedling production continue, while the rustification of seedlings for this year’s planting is underway. Plantings and replantings also continue their course, with monitoring and control of pests, especially the adult yerba mate borer, ampel and cochineal. Industrialization continues as normal for the period, with regular exports and a growth trend. Prices in the region vary between R$18.50/at for leaf yerba mate delivered to the industry and R$5,000.00/t for cancheada yerba mate, in addition to seedlings available at R$1.50/unit.
In the Soledade region, the yerba mate harvest is underway, although at a slow pace, with the expectation of intensification in the coming periods. The quality of the leaf is higher compared to last year, due to the lower presence of ampoule. Some producers have already started planting new seedlings for replacement, and green manure is recommended for the period. The price paid to the producer varies from R$16.00 to R$18.00/at in some locations.
In the Lajeado region, yerba mate cultivation is in a normal development phase for the season, with good weather conditions favoring production. Prices remain stable, and there is a tendency for excess supply, especially among producers without loyalty to any herb company. During March and April, there were records of attacks by unconventional caterpillars, which demands attention from producers. Many herb companies are vigilant regarding the use of unregistered products, shutting down producers who do not follow Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) recommendations.
