State health workers accept government proposal and end strike in RN | large northern river

Health workers in Rio Grande do Norte ended this Thursday (25th) the category’s strike, which had started on April 3rd. With this, workers will return to work from this Friday (26th), according to the RN Health Workers Union (Sindsaúde).

The civil servants accepted the proposal from the government of Rio Grande do Norte, after more than 20 days of negotiation. The meeting was with the state secretary of Administration (Sead), Pedro Lopes.

The proposal was for an adjustment of 4.6% in January 2025, application of the inflation calculation in April 2025, a 2% increase in January 2026 and a new application of the inflation calculation in April 2026.

After the meeting, the majority of employees decided to end the strike at the Sindsaúde assembly. In a note, the union informed that the category’s assessment is that this is “a possible proposal” and “that meets several points on the agenda of demands”.

According to the Union, the government has also committed to increasing, from this year onwards, working hours from 30 hours to 40 hours, with 30% of employees in June; 20% in December; and 20% in May 2025.

Another agreement made at the meeting, according to Sindsaúde, was for the payment of around R$8 million relating to 2023 liabilities, which will be paid from June this year – around R$400 thousand per month until October, with the remaining amount being paid off in November and December.

The negotiation also ended with the promise that the government of RN will open dialogue with the Ministry of Health, in May this year, to apply the nursing minimum for retired civil servants.

The RN government also committed to sending two bills to the Legislative Assembly, one so that the occasional duty integrate the basis for calculating the Christmas bonus, and the other to change the law on reclassification based on length of service for civil servants over 30 years old, expected to be implemented in May 2025.

According to the union, there was also the implementation of the radiology floor using the same methodology as the nursing floor, with parity in May 2025, always considering two updated minimum wages.
