Maria Solange, a former drug addict, had her life transformed after a video in which she danced to Madonna’s “Holiday” appeared on the web in 2020. On Saturday (4), after four years, she was able to watch the queen of pop in his highly anticipated show at Copacabana Beach, in Rio de Janeiro. On “Fantástico” this Sunday (5), Solange celebrated the experience and told her story of overcoming things after the viral click.
The woman from Ceará acted as a “mule”, transporting drugs from Fortaleza, where she was born, to Manaus. The same path was followed by her son, Xavier, who was murdered because of drugs and theft. On Sunday, Maria remembered a request from the boy. “He said: ‘Mom, the day I die, I don’t want to hear about you crying. I don’t care about the sad lady. I want to see you smiling, singing, dancing, always happy like you always were. And three months after he had been murdered, I arrived at Edmar’s bar, who is our friend. And I said: ‘Edmar, play some music for me to dance to, because I want to dance for my son’”she said.
The song chosen, in turn, was one of the biggest hits of Madonna’s career, of whom Maria Solange is a big fan. It didn’t take long for the video of her dancing to “Holiday” to reach the singer, who posted it on social media. “Are you feeling hopeless today? Does life seem like one bad story after another? On days like this, we just have to turn on the music and dance.”wrote the voice of “Vogue”.
“I was like, ‘Huh? Who? Madonna? She noticed me, what do you mean? Noticed me, what is this?”, recalled the former drug addict when she saw the post. Thanks to the publication, Maria Solange gained new opportunities. With support from the NGO “Parceiros Brilhantes”, from Manaus, she gained weight and tried to take care of her health. Furthermore, she began a rehabilitation process, got rid of her addictions, went back to school, got a job and reunited with her family in Fortaleza.

On Sunday, Maria admitted that she had been a fan of Madonna for many years. “I have been a Madonna fan since 14 years. I just never had the means to buy CDs, books, magazines, clothes.”, he pointed out. However, she also celebrated the new phase of her life. “[Sinto] I am very grateful to God and everyone, and I feel like a very victorious woman. I feel like a very strong woman. I can say that I am a fortress, because it is not easy. It’s not easy at all. There were 32 years of drug use”reported.

This weekend, four years after the video for “Holiday”, Maria Solange fulfilled her dream of seeing Madonna up close, at the historic show that the artist held on Copacabana beach. The performance closed “The Celebration Tour”, which pays homage to her 40-year career. “I am making my dream come true. It’s for my son”said the woman from Ceará, who stayed at a point close to the stage, at the invitation of one of the sponsors.
