Alagoas will receive the first doses of vaccine against dengue this Friday (26), but they will be distributed, initially, to 12 municipalities in the state.
According to the State Department of Health (Sesau), the Qdenga vaccine will be destined for cities in the I Health Region. They are:
- Flexors
- Messiah
- Barra de Santo Antônio
- Paripueira
- Rio Largo
- Maceió
- Satuba
- Santa Luzia do Norte
- Dry Coconut Tree
- Marshal Deodoro
- Barra de São Miguel
- cornerstone
According to Sesau, information about the target audience and how many doses will arrive in Alagoas will be issued later, after publication of a Technical Note by the Ministry of Health.
Also according to Sesau, the municipalities that will receive the first doses were chosen by the Ministry of Health.
Alagoas was not included among the states covered. This is because the federation entities that received the doses were those that had a higher rate of notifications and confirmed cases of dengue.
The inclusion of Alagoas occurs after the Ministry of Health identified a reduction in the population’s search for doses, stated Sesau. Thus, the federal government body decided to also send doses to the state of Alagoas.
According to Sesau, the agency worked on a series of actions in municipalities in Alagoas to prevent dengue.
The objective was to prevent Alagoas from registering a dengue epidemic, as is already occurring in several Brazilian states, according to the Secretary of State for Health, Gustavo Pontes de Miranda.
“During the initiative, which is covering several cities in Alagoas, informational materials were distributed and people’s doubts were clarified about how to avoid the emergence of mosquito outbreaks. Now with a vaccine we have another weapon against the mosquito”, said the state health manager.
From January to 2024, Alagoas recorded three deaths due to dengue. They were registered in Atalaia, Viçosa and Porto de Pedras.
