Epig will have more fluidity and infrastructure with works worth R$ 160 million

An investment of R$160 million has transformed urban mobility on Estrada Parque Indústrias Gráficas (Epig). Under construction since 2023, the road is undergoing changes that, in the end, will benefit around 30,000 drivers per day. An ambitious project that includes an exclusive bus corridor, concrete pavement, pedestrian crossings, cycle paths, sidewalks and viaducts, as well as new access to the City Park. For logistics and safety reasons, the services were divided into six sections, generating approximately 1,200 direct and indirect jobs.

The first section, located between the viaducts of Estrada Parque Indústria e Abastecimento (Epia) and Setor Policial Sul, covers the implementation of the BRT lane, the construction of two new viaducts, installation of cycle paths, drainage works, paving, signage, landscaping, sidewalks and urban furniture.

The second section, located in the gap between the South Police Sector viaduct and the intersection between Epig/Sudoeste/Parque da Cidade, involves the implementation of the BRT corridor and the construction of three viaducts, in addition to the installation of cycle paths, drainage works, paving , signage, landscaping, sidewalks and urban furniture.

“The purpose of these viaducts is to eliminate the traffic lights at the intersection of Octogonal and via Epig, making traffic more fluid without constant traffic light interruptions. The project also provides for a roundabout at the site to eliminate the return of those coming from the Southwest who want to access the internal roads of Octogonal”, explains the Secretary of Works and Infrastructure of the Federal District, Valter Casimiro.

The third section is already completed and consists of the viaduct that connects Avenida das Jaqueiras, in the Southwest, with Parque da Cidade. “The Engenheiro Luiz Carlos Botelho Ferreira viaduct, opened in 2023, brought fluidity to traffic on the Epig route. Around 25,000 vehicles pass through there every day”, says Casimiro.

The fourth stage of the grandiose work will be carried out in the gap between the Engenheiro Luiz Carlos Botelho Ferreira viaduct and the junction of the Graphic Industries Sector (SIG). An exclusive corridor for BRT, two new trench viaducts and two underground passages for pedestrians will be implemented – which will provide access to the bus station in the central median of the road. Furthermore, the stretch will have cycle paths, drainage works, paving, signage, landscaping, sidewalks and urban furniture.

The stage 4 project also foresees a new entrance to Parque da Cidade, with the construction of a roundabout. “This is perhaps the most emblematic section of the work. A roundabout will lead directly to the park. And the trench viaducts will serve as a return route so as not to disrupt the flow of the road”, explains the secretary.

The fifth section of the work foresees, among other services, the construction of a viaduct, implementation of a BRT lane and cycle paths, in addition to drainage, paving and landscaping works. Already the sixth and final section establishes the readjustment of the road system to duplicate the road and implement public parking on the track that passes next to the Court of Justice (TJDF) and the Public Ministry of the Federal District (MPDFT), in addition to drainage and paving works and implementation of cycle paths.

“This is another important road project in the Eixo Oeste Corridor that we managed to get off the ground. The Epig road will be completely remodeled. With this, we hope to reduce the travel time from Sol Nascente to Eixo Monumental by at least 25 minutes”, concludes Valter Casimiro.

With 38.7 kilometers long, the Eixo Oeste Corridor foresees the widening of lanes and the construction of exclusive lanes for buses on the main roads connecting Sol Nascente with Plano Piloto, such as Avenida Hélio Prates, Epig and Estrada Parque Military Police (ESPM), which leads to the Asa Sul Terminal. The objective is to reduce travel time to Plano Piloto by half an hour.
