In two months, drought decreases in Acre, but the affected area reaches almost 30% of the state

Data from the Drought Monitor, from the National Water and Basic Sanitation Agency (ANA) show that between February and March, 11 of the 27 federative units had a relief in the drought, including Acre.

In terms of severity, the phenomenon eased in the state of Acre between February and March, as the severe drought decreased from 11% to 3%.

According to the monitor, the total area affected by the drought in the state between February and March was 41,243 kilometers, which corresponds to 27% of Acre’s territory.

In addition to Acre, the states that saw a relief from the drought in the last two months were Bahia, Ceará, Goiás, Maranhão, Minas Gerais, Pará, Paraíba, Pernambuco, Piauí and Rondônia. While six other states experienced intensification, they are: Mato Grosso, Mato Grosso do Sul, Paraná, Roraima, São Paulo and Tocantins.

Between February and March, the dry area decreased from 45% to 27% of Acre’s territory. This is the lowest percentage of territory with the presence of the phenomenon among the Northern states in March.

Despite the reduction in the drought area registered by Acre in March this year, some five states in the northern region had their territories completely taken over by the phenomenon, they are: Mato Grosso, with 99%, Rondônia, Roraima, Tocantins and Amazonas, with 100% .
