Arrested as a suspect in the murder of psychologist Fabiana Maia Veras in Assu, the Court of Justice employee, João Batista Carvalho Neto, has been on leave since 2023 due to psychiatric reports showing signs of “mental incapacity”. According to the Civil Police, the main motivation for the crime would be to obtain information about the ex-girlfriend, who is a friend of the victim.
The death of Fabiana Maia Veras occurred late in the afternoon on Tuesday (23). After being found, it was found that the victim’s body was tied up and showed signs of violence, indicating a possible fight. João Batista was arrested in Natal, on the afternoon of Wednesday (24), in a condominium in Nova Descoberta and ended up discarding items used in the homicide inside that condominium. Police officers found a gun, gandolas and brass knuckles, among other equipment.
During the interview, the suspect’s lawyer stated that João Batista Carvalho Neto’s mental incapacity reports will be presented at an appropriate time. “This is not a defense alibi”, says André Dantas.
Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras at the psychologist’s residence, provided by the Military Police, show that at around 4:40 pm a short, strong man, dressed in a formal shirt, jeans, gloves and a face covered with an Arab cloth, was waiting in front of the place. It takes her a while to recognize him, but she opens the door anyway. According to Civil Police investigations, this man would be João Batista Carvalho Neto.
After the man entered, the victim showed him the clinic, which operated in the same location, and at the same time seemed surprised by his clothes. They entered a room in the residence and after 20 minutes the man came out with a cloth covered in blood and waited for a black Peugeot Sedan vehicle without hubcaps.
