Character in “Grande Sertão”
Actor grew a beard during the covid-19 pandemic for the character Riobaldo, in “Grande Sertão”. “I was very worried about the long passage of time. I play Riobaldo young and old. When we were about to film, the pandemic came. I told Guel: “I’m going to grow a beard throughout the pandemic. When we film, I’ll have the beard we need for the character.”
Caio had already played the character in a play by Bia Lessa, “Grande Sertão: Veredas”, with his wife. “When Guel called me, it was a big surprise. As I was already in Bia’s play and had plans to also make a film about her, I had no idea that Guel would call me.”
He revealed that he already intended to play the character for the cinema with Bia. “I was, I confess, a little embarrassed. I had done all the research and character creation with Bia, it would be like using one job in another. When I read the script, I saw that it had absolutely nothing to do with it. That’s when I thought it was incredible : making two versions of the same character in two completely different universes”
Luiza also joined the cast of the film in the same character as the play. “When Guel asked Luisa to play Diadorim, I was very moved and inspired. We met and fell in love playing these characters. So, there will be a forever record of this love, this meeting.”
