From this Thursday (25th) until Sunday (28th), the first edition of the Youth Festival (FestJuv) takes place. The event features free activities such as contests, book launches and chats with renowned authors, shows, theater, dance, workshops and a rhyme battle, in the University City of the Federal University of Mato Grosso do Sul (UFMS).

The opening is scheduled for 6:30 pm this Thursday with a performance by troubadour Ruberval Cunha.

Created by the Association of Friends of Cinema and Culture, the first FestJuv was born with an initial literary proposal, but was expanded to other cultural aspects.

“We are launching the program, but we are thinking about the event for at least six months. We are not offering anything for young people, but a program in which the symbolic universe of all the different tribes is present and in which art is the guiding thread of all of this. They tell me that young people don’t care about culture, but we need to encourage them by offering other activities that are not offered by the construction of digital media and that go against the obscurantism spread around the world, through battle. What interests us are people’s lives. Of all the initiatives we carried out in Mato Grosso do Sul, it is the first event of this nature at UFMS, to which I am immensely grateful for opening its doors to us”, explained Nilson Rodrigues.

The director of Science Popularization of the Dean of Extension, Culture and Sport, Lia Raquel Toledo Brambilla Gasques, emphasized UFMS’s involvement in promoting FestJuv.

“UFMS was chosen to host this Festival due to the concentration of young people we have and also to attract those who do not yet attend the Institution, to come to us. This is an event for all students and we invite everyone to attend and participate in the program,” she said.

The activities include important names from regional culture and also names with national visibility. Among them are actor Johnny Massaro, writer Tino Freitas, producer PJ Maia, musicians and composers Arnaldo Antunes and Matu Miranda, singer Ana Cañas, poets Sérgio Vaz and Emmanuel Marinho, comedian Matheus Buente and writer Marcelo Rubens Paiva.

Theater performances include Vereda dos Mamulengos, Dom Casmurro and Areôtorare, as well as circus, trova, cheerleading, breaking, cosplay and K-pop competitions, capoeira.

Nine workshops will be held: creative writing, acting for cinema and TV, scriptwriting for cinema, vocal technique for young people, creation and development of mobile applications, public policies for youth, combating fake news (false information), digital entrepreneurship and professions of the future and communication and marketing are the themes.

At the end, in addition to the awards for the literary, reporting and rhyme competitions and the talk with writer Sérgio Vaz, there will be a musical performance by MC Anarandá and Bro MC’s, the first indigenous rap group in Brazil.

The activities will take place at Complexo Multiuso 1, Teatro Glauce Rocha and Esplanada do Morenão. The Vila das Letras will be set up, in the Theater parking lot, with exhibitions, sales, exchanges and donations of books with various literary collectives. In the Youth Square, a stage must be set up for artistic performances. A Food Court structure was also designed to serve participants.

All the activities are free. Some have limited places and, therefore, those interested should be aware of availability for ticket collection.
