With the support of the Minister of Mines and Energy, Alexandre Silveira, lawyer Vital do Rêgo Neto, who is the son of the minister of the Federal Court of Auditors (TCU), won a place on the board of the Electric Energy Commercialization Chamber (CCEE) on Tuesday, 23, as reported by the newspaper The globe. The private entity is responsible for managing the purchase and sale of energy in Brazil.

The lawyer, who is also the nephew of the vice-president of the Senate, Veneziano Vital do Rêgo (MDB-PB), will serve a four-year term, receiving a salary of R$86,500. In the election, the lawyer competed for the position with engineer Marco Delgado, who was already a CCEE advisor and was considered for re-election.

Having worked as an advisor to the board of directors of the National Electric Energy Agency (Aneel), Vital do Rêgo Neto has a degree in Law from the University of Brasília (UnB) and a master’s degree in Energy Law from the Sorbonne University.

According to the publication, the lawyer recognized the existence of a ‘friendly relationship’ between the family and minister Alexandre Silveira ‘due to political coexistence’. However, he denied that this would have any influence on the process.

Vital Neto also stated that the nomination of his name came from the Ministry of Mines and Energy itself and was endorsed by ‘several names in the sector’ due to the work carried out previously.
