Man dies after reacting to robbery while leaving work in Manaus

Security camera images showed the moment the victim was approached by the criminal. At the time, the man refused to hand over his cell phone and was shot. Soon after, the robber fled the scene.

The police then began the investigation and managed to identify the suspect. This Wednesday, the teams carried out an operation to arrest him, but the criminal offered resistance and was shot.

“Every criminal is arrested with all their rights protected and handed over to justice. Today’s criminal, however, wanted to confront the police, shooting at the officers, and the result was his own death. Our objective is the life of society. We are not about to celebrate anyone’s death, but any criminal who tries to confront the police, this will be the result”, commented general delegate Bruno Fraga.

Police also said that the man was also involved in other crimes in the region. According to delegate Thomaz Vasconcelos Dias, head of the Police Station Specialized in Robbery, Theft and Fraud (DERFD), on March 31, on the same street where the robbery occurred, the man and his companion claimed three robbery victims. They were even arrested by the Military Police for the crime.

“He had a long history of crimes, including having been arrested carrying a submachine gun and a pistol, as well as escorting drug cargo in Bairro da União. Due to his dangerous nature, when planning the operation we identified the need to have operational support from the 23rd Cicom and Core-AM”, he said.

“We got information, after identifying him, that he spread throughout the neighborhood that he would not be arrested, that he would face the police. With all this information, we were able to set up this joint operation to respond to the victim’s family. Our intention was to arrest him, but he reacted and died”, said Major Paulo Furtado, from the PM.
