After mother seeks MP, case about her son’s death in Sambão do Povo, in ES, is reopened

The Civil Police reopened the investigation into the murder of Pedro Henrique Crizanto, 20 years old, who was shot dead in Sambão do Povo, in Vitória, in February 2023. According to the police, a new investigation indicated that a another person participated in the fight and may have murdered the young man.

The images from the moment of the crime were sent to a specialized police station in Rio de Janeiro and examined by the Intelligence Coordination of the Public Ministry of Espírito Santo, which concluded that a third person may have shot Pedro Henrique.

The case was only reopened because Pedro’s mother and Vila Velha councilor, Patrícia Crizanto (PSB), approached the Public Prosecutor’s Office with some questions about her son’s death.

“At all times I was looking for how to show that the path of the investigation was different. Another in the sense of really showing who pulled the trigger. This feeling as a mother that showed me that it was not entirely the way it was initially concluded. Furthermore, the speeches of some people in the community who said that it was someone else who had taken my son’s life and that the murder weapon had never been found”, said the mother.

The mother said that even with the minor apprehended, the murder weapon was not found, even after several operations.

“The information we received from the police is that these criminals are already involved in crime in the region, they were people who went there with this objective, causing trouble and taking people’s lives”, said Patrícia.

According to the Civil Police, new investigations were carried out and the real shooter was identified, a man who has already been arrested for another homicide since March of last year.

The suspect’s name was not released. His statement has already been scheduled and the police hope to conclude the investigation after hearing him.

“My family’s work in supporting young people is due to the fact that we live in a socially vulnerable community. We go through moments of conflict, fights over drug trafficking, and we always direct children and teenagers so that we cannot see them having their lives taken away and suddenly finding the young man there in the coffin to be my son. Even in a community with a lot of conflict, he managed to be a successful young man. Now this will give an answer so that these people really cannot. being in society at that moment. It was a shot that hit Pedro, but it hurt all of us and that pain continues every day”, he said.

The teenager who had confessed to the crime remains hospitalized following socio-educational measures, because according to the police, even though he was not the perpetrator, he also participated in the crime.

The Civil Police reported that the investigation is in the final phase of hearings and investigations, so that the person involved can be indicted and the information subsequently forwarded to the Public Prosecutor’s Office.

Pedro Henrique Crizanto died in a widespread confusion that occurred during the technical rehearsals of the samba schools at the Vitória Carnival on February 2, 2023.

In another video, Pedro appears in the middle of the confusion and then falls, at which point he was allegedly shot in the head.

According to delegate Marcelo Cavalcanti, from the Specialized Homicide and Personal Protection Division (DHPP) in Vitória, the minor is also suspected of involvement in a double murder attempt.

At the time, the former Secretary of Public Security, Colonel Alexandre Ramalho, said that the teenager was part of drug trafficking in the Morro do Alagoano region and admitted the crimes.

Also according to Alexandre Ramalho, a heated discussion between a group of friends, the victim’s family and traffickers motivated the crime.

Delegate Marcelo Cavalcanti spoke more about the disagreement that led to Pedro Henrique’s death.

“What we have to investigate today is that the fight started because individuals linked to drug trafficking in Alagoano felt ‘intruded’, he [o adolescente] used this expression, they felt challenged by the group that was the victim. They started staring at each other over drinks and that was when there was widespread confusion.”
