Suspect of killing Acre governor’s cousin is arrested and claims self-defense | Acre

The man accused of killing Bruno Cameli Messias, cousin of the governor of Acre, Gladson Cameli, was arrested this Tuesday (24), in the Buenos Aires community, close to the municipality of Porto Walter, 687 km from Rio Branco. According to the Acre Civil Police (PCAC), the man did not resist capture and was taken to the police station.

The operation by the General Police Station of Marechal Thaumaturgo was supported by the Brazilian Army. The identity of the suspect has not been released.

Police chief Marcílio Laurentino explains that the man was located at an uncle’s house in the Buenos Aires community. He did not react and claimed that he acted in self-defense.

“He stated that they were drinking and the victim had attacked him and tried to grab a knife and to defend himself, he stabbed him in the abdomen with a knife, then fled the scene”, says the delegate.

Laurentino explains that the suspect of the crime was charged with being caught in the act due to police persecution and was ordered to be detained in custody, and must undergo a custody hearing this Wednesday (24).

Bruno Cameli Messias, one of the cousins ​​of the governor of Acre, Gladson Cameli, died after being stabbed in the stomach during a dispute between friends. The case took place in the Triunfo Community, rural area of ​​Marechal Thaumaturgo, in the interior of Acre. Messiah died on the way to the city hospital.

According to the Civil Police, the motivation for the crime was jealousy. Messiah allegedly hit on his friend’s wife during a drunken session. Angry, the man grabbed a knife and struck the victim once and fled.

The Acre government’s communications office confirmed the victim’s relationship to the governor.

The suspect’s wife said in her statement that she was always harassed when Bruno Messias was drinking alcoholic beverages. The delegate responsible for the investigations, Marcílio Laurentino, confirmed that Bruno Messias was Gladson Cameli’s second cousin.

“They were friends, but every time he drank he started hitting on her. An argument broke out, she was in the kitchen and only saw her husband running. When she arrived in the room he [Bruno] he was stabbed in the abdomen. It was just a stab, but the viscera came out”, said the delegate.

According to the police, Bruno Messias was spending time on the family property, which is in the community. The delegate added that the suspect’s wife and her relatives placed the victim in a boat and took him to the city hospital.

However, he died before arriving in the urban area. Due to the distance – the community is three hours by boat from the city – the police tried to use resources to go to the location and arrest the suspect.

Laurentino highlighted that one of the governor’s aircraft went to Marechal Thaumaturgo to pick up the victim’s body. “We already have the suspect’s identification, but we are having difficulty getting there to arrest him,” he concluded.
