The president of the Chamber, Arthur Lira (PP-AL), said this Tuesday (23) that he had already been complaining about the government’s political coordination with Congress — which is the responsibility of the Minister of Institutional Relations, Alexandre Padilha. And that Padilha “did several” with him, but that the “words said, are said”.

“I have no problem recognizing the error when I make it. I have already been pointing it out, privately, to the government, and it knows this, that the government’s coordination has not been working for a few months”, argued Lira.

“The words said are said. I could not have said it better or worse, as I told you: I am human, I can make mistakes and I can get things right, but, for me, politics must always be done straight, clear, nothing from behind, nothing off, no leaks”.

Amid the crisis with Lira, Lula releases more than 2.4 billion in amendments

In the interview aired this Tuesday, Lira denied having “bought the fight” for the deputy’s release.

“I didn’t buy it. That’s untrue (…). There is no deputy in the Chamber of Deputies and I talk to all of them. There is no deputy who says that I influenced his vote, that I asked for a vote. I think that It’s a very personal discussion for each party and each parliamentarian there”, he stated.

Behind the scenes, however, deputies said that Lira was upset with what he considered to be government interference, especially from Alexandre Padilha, in the Chamber’s analysis of Brazão’s situation. Padilha said, publicly, that the government would guide the maintenance of the prison.

Lira’s statement about Alexandre Padilha, on April 11, generated repercussions. Lula and the PT, for example, came to Padilha’s defense.

“We have situations that are normal things in politics”, declared the president during a coffee with journalists at Palácio do Planalto.

Still during the interview with Pedro Bial, Lira said that he does not see himself as an antagonist of the President of the Republic.
