On Tuesday afternoon (23), the Aracaju Civil Defense issued a rain alert with moderate to heavy intensity for the next 24 hours.

According to Civil Defense, the capital’s rain gauges recorded an accumulated volume of 84 millimeters (mm). Until 3pm, 12 incidents were recorded, 8 of which were floods, 3 were risk assessments for structural collapse and 1 was a falling tree, with no record of victims, homeless people, evacuees or closures. According to the municipal secretary of Social Defense and Citizenship, Lieutenant Colonel Silvio Prado, work continues intensely to monitor risk areas and respond to incidents.

The accumulated rainfall this month has already exceeded 365mm, exceeding the historical average for April, which is 192.3mm. The data has been monitored by the Aracaju City Hall Crisis Management Committee, which carries out strategic actions to reduce impacts and risks to the population.

According to the municipal secretary of Social Defense and Citizenship, lieutenant colonel Silvio Prado, the organization is paying attention to updates from centers specializing in meteorology to reinforce care for the population.

“We observed high intensity rainfall, mainly in the city center. The rains were already expected, according to the alert issued by the Meteorology Center and, today, we reinforced it with the sending of the SMS alert”, he said.

To receive notices from Civil Defense, simply send a message via SMS to number 40199 and enter the zip code of the location you wish to receive information in the text field. The service is free and allows the same person to register more than one ZIP code. With registration, the population has access to information in advance about conditions that require attention, such as high tides, strong winds, heavy rains and others.
