The Federal Highway Police (PRF), in partnership with the Federal District Agriculture Secretariat (Seagri-DF) and the Goiana Agricultural Defense Agency (Agrodefesa), carried out an operation that resulted in the seizure of 764kg of animal products representing health risk for the capital.
According to the corporation, among the products seized were 85 bottles of clandestine honey, as well as citrus fruits and bananas. During the action, which took place at the PRF’s fixed post, more than 130 inspections were carried out on cargo vehicles.
The inspections aimed to identify irregularities that could compromise the health of the public, livestock and crops.
Among the fines carried out, the teams highlighted the seizure of 96 kilos of illegal pork meat and lard. The products came from Piauí, a state that is part of the area not free from classical swine fever. The entry of the product into the Federal District would pose a potential health risk to local pig farming. Regarding fruits, the concern is with the phytosanitary emergency brought by the star fruit fly. Five fines were carried out and the loads were escorted to their origin. In total, more than 70 tons of fruit were inspected and approximately 17 of them were found to be in an irregular situation due to the lack of health documentation.
The Seagri-DF Traffic Inspection Management, responsible for the operation carried out last Friday (19), stated that the action highlights the importance of cooperation between different spheres of public power and guarantees the safety of the food that reaches the table of citizen. According to Agrodefesa’s Agricultural Inspection Management, other operations like this must be carried out at strategic points on the border between DF and Goiás.
