The tourism sector in Mato Grosso contributed R$91.7 million in revenue from the Tax on the Circulation of Goods and Services (ICMS) and R$41.5 million in ISSQN for the municipalities in 2023. The numbers show an expansion of 25 .1% on ICMS and 39% for ISSQN on 2022, according to data from the Tourism Observatory of the State Secretariat for Economic Development (Sedec).

To take advantage of this economic boom that the sector has been presenting, Fecomércio-MT and the State Government, through Sedec, held, this Monday (22), at Sesc Arsenal, in Cuiabá, the launch of another edition of the The largest tourism event in the Central-West, FIT Pantanal 2024, which takes place from May 30th to June 2nd, at the Pantanal Events Center, in Cuiabá. The forecast is to attract, during the four days of the event, around 75 thousand people.

With the theme “Tourism, Events, Agro and Business”, the fair has an extensive program involving the support of institutions such as the National Confederation of Commerce in Goods, Services and Tourism (CNC), the Legislative Assembly of Mato Grosso (ALMT) and City Hall of Cuiabá, in addition to the partnership with the entities Sebrae-MT, Seaf-MT, Empaer-MT and tourist trade.

Through the Fecomércio/Sesc/Senac/IPF-MT System, cultural attractions, health and gastronomy services and professional training courses in the tourist area will be offered to the public, which last year totaled more than 50 thousand people during the event, in addition to a technological and innovative stand.

For the president of Sistema Comércio in the state, José Wenceslau de Souza Júnior, the possibility of holding the event encourages an entire production chain, benefiting hundreds of economic activities directly or indirectly linked to tourism. “Holding FIT Pantanal is more than showing the best we have in tourism. It is to encourage business for tourism entrepreneurs of all sizes: from agencies, hotels, restaurants, to the family farmer who sells his harvest at the fair here in Arsenal, and event organizers”, stated Wenceslau Júnior, remembering the role of the Fecomércio-MT Tourism and Hospitality Business Council in organizing the fair.

New tourist products

Among the programming is the Sebrae Mato Grosso Business Round, which last year alone generated an expected volume of national negotiations in the order of R$ 10.2 million and US$ 262 thousand with international operators. The action aims to present new tourist products in the state and establish partnerships between entrepreneurs in the local tourist trade, with national and international operators.

Once again there will be the participation of family farming, which brought more than 50 exhibitors last year, including farmer associations and cooperatives, which generated revenues of R$350,000 with the sale of more than 2,300 products. In this edition, greater participation is expected from farmer associations and cooperatives, which include representatives of traditional communities, settlers, quilombolas, indigenous people and forest peoples.

With the Knowledge Village, an extensive program will be offered to visitors and interested parties, through training, round tables, lectures, workshops, panels and workshops promoted by various entities. The superintendent director of Sebrae-MT, Lélia Bruhn, highlighted the entity’s partnership in all editions of the fair.

“Since the beginning of FIT Pantanal, Sebrae Mato Grosso has been present, being a partner and helping to develop products and tourist itineraries with companies in several municipalities in the state. Furthermore, with the Knowledge Village, our entity will promote meetings with the tourist trade, promoting a sector that is expanding in the state”, reinforced Lélia Bruhn.

The Knowledge Village program also includes lectures on topics such as: Social Networks as a market strategy for artisans; Agrotour tech: discover the new frontiers of agro-tech tourism; Rural tourism – walks in nature as a Strategy for conscious rural tourism and Regenerative Rural Tourism; Event production: how to avoid problems; Performance at an event: vocation or talent, among others.

For the Deputy Secretary of Tourism of the State, Felipe Wellaton, the government partnership, which invested R$3.9 million in holding this year’s event, seeks to encourage the activities of companies linked to tourism throughout the state. “We will publicize the natural beauty of more than 35 municipalities during the fair, showing their potential so that we can attract more tourists, making our state richer, together with the companies that operate within these locations.”
