Alagoas has a State Oncology Plan, but for patients affected by cancer in the state, access to guarantee adequate care is as difficult as compliance with the standards set out in the document [plano]which will be revised to improve public management in oncology.

In a working meeting with the Federal Public Ministry (MPF), the State Public Ministry (MPAL) and the Federal Public Defender’s Office (DPU), representatives of the Health Departments (SMS) of Maceió, Arapiraca and the State (Sesau), committed to presenting the updated State Oncology Plan, in mutual collaboration.

The meeting, held under the coordination of the public prosecutor Roberta Bomfim, the public prosecutor Micheline Tenório and the regional human rights defender in Alagoas, Diego Alves, had among the main points discussed: the need to implement improvements in patient care, the contractualization with providers, agreed financing and the importance of cooperation between different entities to guarantee an efficient and equitable service.

After debates and analyses, meeting participants reached a consensus on the importance of reviewing the State Oncology Plan, which will be developed jointly between the State of Alagoas and the executing municipalities (Maceió and Arapiraca), through their respective secretariats. of Health. Furthermore, the Council of Municipal Health Secretariats of Alagoas (Cosems/AL) will contribute to the discussions.

This plan will be presented to the MPF, MPAL and DPU within 60 days, counting from April 24, 2024.

The initiative aims not only to face the immediate challenges found in cancer care, but also to establish clear guidelines and tangible goals to continually improve health services related to cancer in Alagoas, in addition to regularizing the transfers contracted between the State and municipalities.

For representatives of the institutions, “the joint commitment is an important step in the right direction. We are determined to work to strengthen collaboration with all interested parties to ensure that cancer patients receive the best and most efficient care possible.”

The meeting, held on April 18th, is part of the joint action undertaken by MPF, MPAL and DPU, over the last few years, with the aim of definitively strengthening the Oncology Assistance Network in Alagoas. Check out the latest news:

– In October 2023, the institutions issued a joint recommendation to the Ministry of Health so that measures could be adopted to equalize the financing and quality of oncology care services in the State of Alagoas.

– In November 2023, Ordinance GM/MS No. 1,888 was published, increasing the Union’s financing by more than 20 million reais. Audits by DENASUS are taking place.

– Before, however, a joint recommendation was sent to the State of Alagoas seeking the implementation of the State Fund to Fight Cancer in Alagoas.

– Sesau presented a Emergency Oncology Assistance Plan to the MPF, MPAL and the DPU.
The institutions requested information from the Health Departments (Sesau and SMS) and the accredited hospitals to oncology care in Alagoas.
