Prosecutor calls lawyer a ‘chicken’ and jury session is postponed in Minas Gerais – Country

A jury session was postponed in Belo Horizonte (MG) after a prosecutor calls a lawyer a “garnished chicken”. Francisco Santiago, from the Public Ministry of Minas Gerais, also said that the professional would do a striptease. The case took place during a hearing on March 26, but only gained repercussions this Wednesday (3), after the lawyer released images of what happened.

The information is from CBN. The defendants are accused of involvement in a homicide. According to the minutes of the trial session meeting, the disagreement began after the reply and rejoinder phase. According to the document, after the discussion, judge Marcela Oliveira de Moura postponed the trial until June 5th.

Sarah Quinettithe lawyer insulted by the prosecutor, said she noticed different treatment between her and the male lawyers since the beginning of the jury.

“There were four male lawyers for a defendant, and just me for my client. At the moment he started to extrapolate, I noticed that he interrupted me in a defense technique. I responded and he called me a chicken, hysterical and said which was a wretched, neurotic hysteria. I spoke to the doctor who was next to me so that we could change our gowns, that maybe then the prosecutor would respect me because I was seeing that there was a difference between men and women. I took off my gown to change with the doctor, and the prosecutor said I was going to do a striptease”, he told CBN.

Request for removal

After the case, representatives of the National Council of the Public Ministry (CNMP) filed a disciplinary complaint against prosecutor Francisco Santiago. They requested the investigation of the facts and the precautionary removal of the prosecutoraiming to prevent other lawyers from being offended in the same way.

In the piece, CNMP representatives stated that the prosecutor’s stance “goes beyond what is considered socially acceptable”.

The Public Ministry of Minas Gerais (MPMG) stated that the General Inspector’s Office did not receive representation regarding Francisco Santiago’s actions. The National Council of the Public Ministry and the prosecutor did not comment.
