Inep indicators

To generate the list of universities, Inep uses some indicators, including the Institution’s General Index of Evaluated Courses (IGC), a quality scale that goes from 1 (worst) to 5 (best). This index, which covers universities, colleges and university centers, is based on two criteria:

  • Grade attributed to each postgraduate course at the institution by the Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (Capes);
  • And the average of each Preliminary Course Concept (CPC) course, also measured by Inep.

Of the institutions with calculated IGC, 27.7% (554) performed between bands 4 and 5 of the indicator. 60.3% obtained a grade 3 e. Furthermore, 11.7% (234) and 0.3% (6) were in bands 2 and 1, respectively.

In turn, the CPC brings together different variables: the Enade Concept; the percentage of teachers with a master’s or doctorate degree; the student’s perception of the course they took; and, finally, the Difference Between Observed and Expected Performance Indicator (IDD).
