STJ determines Jairo Jorge’s return to Canoas City Hall | Rio Grande do Sul

The Court determined the immediate return from politician to office. The City Council needs to be notified of the decision so that Jairo Jorge can resume work at City Hall

Currently, the position is occupied by vice-mayor Nedy Marques (PP)what was elected on Jorge’s ticket, but broke politically with his former ally.

The minister understood that the points contained in the complaint against Jairo Jorge are “past” facts and that there is no need for removal to preserve evidence because it is already included in the indictment.

Furthermore, the report points out that there was no report of new evidence or continuity of the crimes identified when Jairo Jorge resumed the mayorship after his first leave.

Sebastião Reis Júnior also pointed out that the separation lasted “excessive deadline” is that “cannot be eternalized in time”mainly in relation to the exercise of the mandate, so as not to mean an “indirect revocation”.

Since taking office on January 1, 2021, Jairo Jorge spent 693 days in office and 600 days away.

Jairo Jorge is being investigated for alleged irregularities in the hiring of outsourced cleaning and kitchen services in health units in the municipality.

The case was being processed in the State Court, but was transferred to the federal level, being judged by the Federal Regional Court of the 4th Region (TRF-4), in Porto Alegre.

Canoas is the third largest municipality in RS, with 348 thousand inhabitants. The city is neighboring Porto Alegre.
