Residents of RS have been without electricity for 13 days

A lack of electricity totals almost two weeks in municipalities in the southern region of the state after the storm on March 21st. According to the concessionaire CEEE Equatorial, 1,300 customers in the region did not have service restored until this Tuesday (2).

In Cerrito alone, a city with 5,800 inhabitants, there are more than 500 addresses without electricity according to the city hall. Pelotas and Jaguarão also face shortages, according to the concessionaire.

According to CEEE, ten teams are working to restore the situation, but there is no precise date for the return of power.

The company’s Southern Regional Customer Relationship Manager, Egon Vivian, stated that the situation should be normalized ‘‘probably before Friday’.

Due to the situation, the lack of water also became a problem. Today, at least 800 people depend on water trucks due to the pumps being unable to function.

As worrying as the water situation is the food shortage. Rural workers are financially affected. This is the case of Carmen Roll, which had to discard 500 liters of milk from the property, in addition to spending on diesel to keep the generators active.

”There is a lot of damage, because it will count all the diesel that the generators are using, plus the milk that was wasted. I even called because we have downed high voltage cables. They (CEEE Equatorial) said they would send the first truck they had, but nothing has come yet,” he says.

In the early hours of March 21, a storm affected 457 thousand customers and left 1.2 million points without electricity in Rio Grande do Sul. The storm blocked roads and interrupted the supply of essential services, especially in the South and Central regions. South.
