The Federal Highway Police (PRF) ended, at 11:59 pm this Sunday (31), in Rio Grande do Norte, Operation Holy Week 2024. During the four days of operation, the PRF recorded a 31% increase in the overall number of accidents in compared to the same period last year.

This year, during Holy Week, the PRF recorded 17 accidents with 23 people injured and no deaths. Furthermore, a 50% reduction in cell phone use while driving was reported, a very serious infraction.

During the holiday, 1,748 people and 1,612 vehicles were inspected, with 225 drivers being caught overtaking improperly, 5 drivers using their cell phones while driving, 80 drivers or passengers not wearing helmets, 21 children being transported without a restraint device (DRC) and 80 people without wearing a seat belt.

Regarding drunk driving, 1,344 alcohol tests were carried out and 39 drivers were charged.

Fighting crime

In relation to combating crime, federal highway police officers seized a firearm, 12 rounds of ammunition, a false document and recovered three vehicles. In total, 17 people were arrested for various crimes and referred to the judicial police, 7 of them for environmental crimes. Fourteen specimens of native wildlife birds were collected and sent to IBAMA.
