Rio – A man, identified as Luciano Maria da Conceição Azevedo, was arrested this Wednesday (27) in Copacabana, in the South Zone, for double homicide. The crime happened 25 years ago.
According to the Civil Police, agents from the 12th DP (Copacabana) arrested Luciano after cross-checking data that managed to identify and locate his whereabouts. There was an arrest warrant against him.
The crime took place on June 13, 1999, when Luciano shot the victim VSP, aged 29, for a futile reason and with no possibility of defense. According to the police, the woman was brutally shot in the back, at the door of her residence in front of her neighbors, after an argument between the two.
According to his own report, he had a relationship with the victim and killed her after seeing her riding on the back of a motorcycle driven by another man. Luciano also said that he was in love with the woman and because of the possibility of her being with another man he ended up killing her, after just 4 months of relationship.
He was acquitted by the TJ in November 2014. The MP, however, appealed and the Court decided that the prisoner should undergo a new trial, considering that the decision was contrary to the evidence in the case, as he had confessed to the crime.
In a new trial, Luciano was sentenced to 21 years in prison in February 2017. After the sentence, the criminal fled to Minas Gerais, but ended up being captured in September 2019.
After serving just over 4 years of his sentence, in May 2023, house arrest was granted. The MP again appealed and in December 2023 the Court of Justice ordered a new arrest so that he could return to the closed regime.
