The low demand in the country for dengue vaccines, which had immunized only 20% of the expected population until the beginning of this month, led the Ministry of Health to ask States yesterday (27) to redistribute doses due by April 30.

Mato Grosso do Sul is one of those that has a batch available for shipping, as confirmed today (28) by the State Secretary of Health, Maurício Simões. The number of doses redistributed has not yet been defined.

What is forwarded will be “borrowed” and replaced by the federal department later, with doses with a more distant expiration date, according to a technical note from the Ministry.

“It will not be a donation, it is a relocation of batches according to availability and excess throughout the national territory. Those who have an excess and are not having sufficient demand will redistribute the vaccines and then receive the next batches again from the Ministry of Health with an expiration date wider validity”, explains Simões.

If they were not distributed, the doses could become expired leftovers in Mato Grosso do Sul, says the secretary. New strategies are being planned to increase the application of doses, he adds.

States that will receive – Also according to a technical note from the Ministry of Health, the excess doses sent by the States should be sent to the municipalities that currently lead the number of cases of the disease.

They are mainly in Acre, Amazonas, Bahia, Goiás, Maranhão, Paraíba and Rio Grande do Norte. In addition to them, the capital of São Paulo should receive it.
