Amazonas Naval Polo announces that 3,000 jobs are at risk due to lack of transfers – Amazonas

-

The Amazonas Naval Hub is facing a serious crisis due to the lack of transfers from the Merchant Marine Fund (FMM), which already total around R$ 1 billion and extend for more than 16 months. This situation is putting more than 3,000 direct jobs in Manaus at risk, as the sector is facing difficulties investing in shipbuilding, fleet modernization and vessel maintenance.

Galdino Alencar Júnior, president of the Union of River Navigation Companies in the State of Amazonas (Sindarma), warns that the only current order that maintains activities and jobs in the sector is the construction of barges to transport minerals in Pará. However , this order is not enough to sustain the sector in the long term.

The situation is aggravated by the absence of transfers of the Additional Freight for Renewal of the Merchant Marine, the main source of resources for the FMM, which is now under the responsibility of the Ministry of Infrastructure. Without an urgent solution, shipyards are at risk of mass layoffs and the closure of activities essential to the local economy.

The transfer of the FMM to Infrastructure requires an immediate solution to avoid irreparable damage to the Amazonas naval sector. The lack of budget forecast and uncertainty about debt repayment this year are leading shipyards to consider mass layoffs as they can no longer afford the costs of stalled projects.
