Podcast ‘A Ditadura Recontada’ features new audio by Elio Gaspari about the military period | Podcast

With new audio that tells the behind-the-scenes of the military regime, the first episode of the podcast “A Ditadura Recontada” arrives on Globoplay and other audio platforms this Thursday (28). The audio documentary will have, in total, six episodes that delve into more than 300 hours of historical recordings from the collection of journalist Elio Gaspari, author of the “Coleção Ditadura”.

Launched on the eve of the 60th anniversary of the coup, the series reveals documents, notes and intimate accounts from those who lived in the period before the democratic rupture and the 21 years of the regime. It goes through crucial points to understand that time, such as the Araguaia Guerrilla, AI-5, torture and redemocratization. The work also portrays the divisions between the military, the anarchy in the barracks, in addition to the discoveries that led to the rise and fall of the dictatorship.

Presented by Nadedja Calado and co-hosted by researcher Helena Dias, the Original Globoplay podcast is a CBN production.

According to Pedro Dias Leite, director of journalism at CBN, one of the highlights is a conversation between Ernesto Geisel, the penultimate of the dictator-presidents, with his future Army minister, Dale Coutinho, from 50 years ago. The recording confirms the execution of guerrillas and opponents of the dictatorship who had already been captured and surrendered. And, among other matters, the military also talks about the importance of the AI-5 in order not to lose control of the regime.

The first episode of the podcast presents the climate in the country in the pre-coup years, with party radicalism and the effects that led to the outbreak of the coup movement. The remaining episodes will be published weekly, and can all be heard for free.
