Police indict man arrested for raping patient admitted to Carazinho hospital | Rio Grande do Sul

According to delegate Leandro Antunes, the 42-year-old suspect was indicted for rape of vulnerable. He had his arrest converted to preventative arrest.

“The investigation concluded with the indictment for rape of a vulnerable person. The accused remains in prison”, he says.

The case is now referred to the Judiciary, and the Public Ministry decides whether or not to report the person under investigation.

Man arrested for attempted rape in Carazinho hospital

The episode took place at the Hospital de Clínicas de Carazinho. According to police chief Leandro Antunes, the man was accompanying his wife, who is undergoing psychiatric treatment at the hospital, when she went to the room of the victim of sexual abuse and committed the crime.

“He sat on the bed where the victim was and put his hand on her leg. She woke up. He started talking to her, leaned on her and committed the rape. He then said he was going to go back to his wife’s room, but that he was going to return there when his partner was asleep. This was caught by a woman who was accompanying another patient who was in the same room”, reports the delegate.

After the man left the room, the rape victim and the other patient’s companion called for help. A nurse went to the room and then called the police. Accompanied by the witness, the agents located the man and arrested him in the act.

According to the investigation, the man had a history of abusive behavior against women in the hospital. He would have demonstrated this type of behavior since he arrived at the scene, which would have even led to his wife’s transfer from the hospital wing.

In a statement, the Hospital de Clínicas de Carazinho confirmed the arrest, and informed that it is available to the authorities for the investigation.

“The Nursing team of the Emergency Service of the Hospital de Clínicas de Carazinho was called at around 6pm, this Wednesday (20), by a patient who declared that she had suffered sexual harassment. The Civil Police were immediately called, who were in the institution providing another service.

At this time, the man who allegedly carried out the act was identified, who was accompanying another patient. He was detained by the Civil Police.

The Hospital de Clínicas de Carazinho is at the disposal of the competent bodies to contribute whatever is necessary and vehemently repudiates acts like these.”
