Rio Grande do Sul recorded 155,306 admissions and 129,854 dismissals, totaling 25,452 jobs in February, according to data from the General Register of Employed and Unemployed Persons (CAGED).

The balance is higher than the same period in 2023 and also compared to January 2024, when balances of 20,351 and 20,288 were recorded respectively.

Industry was the sector that stood out most in February, with 13,031 jobs, followed by services (7,671), agriculture (4,653) and construction (871). Only commerce had a negative performance in the period with – 774 jobs.

The municipalities that recorded the highest balances in February were: Santa Cruz do Sul (4,265), Vacaria (4,168), Caxias do Sul (2,847), Porto Alegre (2,148) and Venâncio Aires (1,595).

So far this year (January and February), 290,740 admissions and 245,000 dismissals were recorded, totaling a balance of 45,740 positions.

Regarding the economic sector, the industry had a balance of 19,795 jobs; agriculture, 15,436; services, 11,136; and construction 2,486. On the other hand, commerce had a negative performance of – 3,113 jobs.

The municipalities with the highest balances recorded in the first 2 months of the year were: Vacaria (8,918), Santa Cruz do Sul (5,435), Caxias do Sul (4,563), Venâncio Aires (2,876) and Porto Alegre (2,815).

The State also registered a stock of 2,816,291 jobs in the month. It is the largest number of active formal ties in the historical series that began in January 2020.

Brazil

The country created 306.11 thousand formal jobs in February this year, the Ministry of Labor and Employment reported this Wednesday (27).

In total, according to the federal government, the following were registered in February: 2.09 million hires; 1.94 million layoffs. The result represents an improvement compared to February last year, when 252.49 thousand formal jobs were created (adjusted value).

The growth was 21.2% compared to the same month in 2023. This is the comparison considered most appropriate by experts. According to the Ministry of Labor, the generation of formal jobs is also the highest for the months of February since 2022 – when 353.74 thousand formal jobs were opened.

In February 2020 and 2021, respectively, 217.26 thousand and 397.71 thousand formal jobs were opened, respectively. The comparison of numbers with years prior to 2020, according to analysts, is no longer appropriate, because the government changed the methodology.
