The assembly of a suspended platform, called a QuikDeck, under pillar 2 from the bridge over the Paraguay River on BR-262, which gives access to Corumbá, was completed today (27). With the equipment installed, it will be possible for workers to work under the bridge, allowing the placement of a new mesh and steel plates and concreting. Furthermore, the system, which was brought from out of state, is state-of-the-art and ensures that repairs are carried out with greater safety and quality.

Measuring 13.8 meters wide and 3.8 meters long, the platform serves as a support so that workers can insert the steel plates and assemble the box for concreting that will reinforce the entire structure, as explained by civil engineer Lauro Peres , one of those responsible for the work on the bridge.

“We have already demolished the pillar slab along its entire length. We are assembling a deck at the bottom that will serve as support for shoring the box and also to reinforce the steel that will be made at the bottom. After that, we will reinforce the steel at the top and continue with the concreting”, he adds.

Still according to the civil engineer, 19 tons of concrete will be used and similar work will be done on pillars P24 and P27, but without the need for QuickDeck.

“This platform below will support all the weight of the shoring that will be placed. After completing the concreting with a set curing time, we will continue with the other points. There will be four more support points at the other end of the bridge, on the Corumbá side”, stated Peres.

This phase is expected to be completed by the second half of April. Meanwhile, the highway continues to operate under the ‘Stop and Go’ system, until the corrections are fully completed. To date, 20% of the total work has been completed.

Secretary Hélio Peluffo, from Seilog (State Secretariat for Infrastructure and Logistics), assesses that as the work is large and technically complex, there was a need to use structures that are being imported from other states. “

So far, we have managed to carry out the work without causing inconvenience to users, maintaining continuous traffic flow, as well as the passage of trucks and trailers that serve industries and depend on the bridge to transport their products. We ask drivers crossing the bridge to proceed with caution and reduce speed when passing through the construction area. This cooperation is crucial to ensure work efficiency. We have prioritized, above all, the safety of the workers involved in the work and of everyone who uses this bridge, whether for leisure or professional purposes”, he explained.

Industrial climbers

In this stage of assembling the platform, industrial and civil construction climbers stepped in to guarantee the support of the equipment.

Leonardo Campos Alves, who has been in this profession for over 7 years, came from Rio de Janeiro. He says that only the region’s heat and strong sun posed greater challenges for his team of climbers.

“Our job was basically to assemble the QuickDeck at the bottom of the bridge and we installed 32 grabs, which provide support. After that, we will set up a scaffold so that people can have access and be able to carry out the work safely and carry out the concreting,” she explained.

As it is a complex, sensitive project with many technical details, the services are carried out so as not to cause major inconvenience to users and industries, which use the bridge to transport people and products.

The bridge, which opened in May 2001, is 1,890 meters long and with new structural steel reinforcement will support around 70 tons per square meter. On average per day, 150 light vehicles and 300 trucks cross the bridge.

Also in February, a steel plate weighing 17 tons was installed, which helps to correct the pathologies found in the bridge’s slabs. The device allowed vehicle traffic while deteriorated materials were removed.
