Recife occupies second place in the ranking of Map of Inequality between Brazilian Capitals, developed by the Sustainable Cities Institute (ICS). The research, whose results were released this Tuesday (26), analyzes areas such as education, health, violence, social assistance, environment and human rights.
Mapa established a ranking to classify the capitals of all Brazilian states, recording scores between 373 and 677.
Recife received a score of 392 and was ahead only of Porto Velho (RO), which scored just 373 points. The capital of Pernambuco has the second highest unemployment rate in Brazil, with 15% of the population unemployed.
Furthermore, Recife is the second capital in the country with the largest number of people below the poverty line, at 11.2%. The municipality is behind only Rio Branco (AC), with 11.3% and Salvador (BA), with 11.15%.
“By collecting and comparing data and indicators from 26 capitals in the country, this publication provides an overview of the inequality that distances places least provided with services and infrastructure from those that offer basic conditions for a dignified and decent life”, says the text on the Map.
The research shows that the capitals of the Northeast have two extremes in terms of malnutrition among children under 5 years of age. In Teresina, less than 0.5% of children are malnourished, while in Salvador, the problem affects 4% of this age group.
Teenage pregnancy has a higher incidence in Macapá, where it affects 18% of young women up to 19 years of age. At the other end is Florianópolis, with 6% of pregnant teenagers.
When it comes to the availability of sanitary sewage, the city of São Paulo is the absolute leader, with the service available to 100% of the population. Porto Velho, capital of Rondônia, has the worst indicator, with less than 6% of inhabitants served.
