Jair Renan Bolsonaro made official this Monday (25) his affiliation with the Liberal Party (PL). The son ’04’ of former president Jair Bolsonaro also confirmed his pre-candidacy for the position of councilor of Balneário Camboriú, a city on the north coast of Santa Catarina. The announcement was made alongside the state governor, Jorginho Mello.
“Southern compatriots, I want to inform all of you that today I joined the PL, I am a pre-candidate for councilor in Balneário Camboriú. I want to thank Governor Jorginho Mello for this great honor of being part of the PL team”, said Jair Renan.
This year’s municipal elections are scheduled to take place in October. In Balneário Camboriú, there are 19 vacancies up for grabs for the City Council. It is a city that has a large number of declared supporters of the former president. In the last presidential election, in 2022, Jair Bolsonaro received 68.36% of the votes in the city. Currently, the city has 3 PL councilors.

In February, the Civil Police of the Federal District asked the indictment of Jair Renan for the crimes of money laundering and ideological falsehood. He was investigated in the investigation linked to Operation Nexum, carried out in August last year to investigate a possible scheme of fraud, embezzlement, falsification of documents, tax evasion and money laundering. The case also involves Jair Renan’s shooting instructor, Maciel Alves.
The investigation pointed out that both defendants were part of a ‘criminal association whose strategy to obtain undue economic advantage involves the insertion of a third party, ‘front man’ or ‘foreman’, to hide the true owner of shell companies or companies ‘ghosts’, used by the main target and his associates’, he revealed. The details of the investigation are confidential.
Both defendants were indicted for the crimes of ideological falsehood, use of a false document and money laundering.
The Civil Police’s main suspicion is that Jair Renan invented a bill that never existed at the company RB Eventos e Mídia to obtain a loan of R$157,000. Then, in 2023, this same scheme was used for new loans of R$251 thousand and R$291 thousand. Yesterday, the Court ordered Jair Renan Bolsonaro to return around R$360,000 to the bank that lost money.
The forgery was possible because the defendants used shell companies and shell companies to declare their revenue. According to the police, the mastermind of the scheme was the shooting instructor, Maciel Alves. As determined by the Civil Police, the money allocated to the company would have been used to cover the personal expenses of those involved.
