“It’s an unacceptable situation, they are family members of people who were simply thrown, discarded in bags,” said resident Maria Cristina da Silva.

“This happened mainly to the relatives of more humble people, who do not know how to express themselves and pursue their rights. A great lack of respect for the population”, he added.

Walton Freitas, another resident of the city, said that the The subject had already been known in Carangola for around 20 daysbut only last week, when the videos started circulating, did everyone become aware of the severity of the situation.

“It’s a shocking thing, really no one is used to a situation like this. Now they have to justify why someone did this and someone is held responsible”, he commented.

Born in Carangola, Rosimeri Araújo traveled from Rio de Janeiro to the city of Minas Gerais after learning about the case. According to her, even with the renovation of the cemetery, the remains of her family members no were moved.

“I hope that the authorities will clarify the facts, identify those responsible and not let the case fall into oblivion,” he said.

O case is being investigated by the Civil Police, which initiated an investigation procedure. The police explained that those involved will be interviewed in the coming days.

A City Hall denies who disposed of the bones.

A complaint was made by the collector on February 7th. According to her, remains from the municipal cemetery were deposited in the city’s landfill.

Given the report, the City Hall opened an internal administrative investigation to investigate the situation and registered a police report on February 9th.

According to City Hall, all municipal employees stationed at the local cemetery claimed that “mortal remains were never removed from the cemetery and discarded in the landfill”.
